Soil with a Ph of 1.0 - 6.0 are acidic, while a Ph between 8.0 - 14.0 is basic. 4. Determine which of your plants like acidic soil and which prefer a more basic soil and keep those plant types together. 5. Soil should be turned or tilled to a depth of 6-8 ". 6. Remove grass and weeds from tilled area. 7. Add leaves, dead grass clippings, hay, or other organic matter to soil and mix. Save coffee grounds to add to the soil periodically. 8. Thin out plants as they grow to provide ample growing room. 9. Utilize wide rows when planting to maintain moisture and cut down on weeds. 10. A good 2-3" layer of mulch will help prevent weeds getting out of control. |
